About 40% of our laser clients at M. STUDIO are men. Back, chest, shoulders, beard shaping, mankini — the most common requests from guys who are done with razor bumps and five-o'clock shadow on their torso.
Male body hair is thicker and the follicles sit deeper under the skin than on most women. That is why men's sessions use higher energy, take a bit longer, and cost more per area. The upside: once the course is done, the results hold the same way.
Popular areas for men
- Full back + shoulders — the single most requested combo. Takes about 30 minutes. No more asking someone to shave your back before the beach.
- Chest + stomach — clean look for the gym or just fewer razor bumps under a dress shirt.
- Beard shaping — not full removal. We laser the neck, cheek line, and under the jawline to keep a clean border. The beard itself stays.
- Mankini (male Brazilian) — full groin and perianal area. Private room, same professionalism as every other service.
- Arms, legs, hands, toes — any area you want reduced or cleared.
Men's pricing
Male rates are higher than female because coarser hair requires more energy and longer treatment time. Tax not included.

Why men's sessions cost more
It is not a surcharge — it is a physics difference. Male body hair is typically thicker at the shaft and rooted deeper in the dermis. The laser needs to deliver more energy per pulse to reach those follicles, and each pass covers less ground because the hair is denser. That adds time. A man's full back might take 30 minutes where a woman's lower legs take 20. The results are the same — it just takes more work to get there.
How it works
We use a Clarity II — a dual-wavelength laser that pairs a 755 nm Alexandrite beam with a 1064 nm Nd:YAG beam. Your technician picks the wavelength based on your skin tone and hair color. Lighter skin with dark hair responds well to Alexandrite. Darker skin tones get Nd:YAG, which reaches the follicle without affecting surrounding melanin. Both wavelengths work through the same handpiece, and the built-in cooling tip keeps the skin comfortable between pulses.
Does it hurt?
The back and chest are fairly easy — most guys say it feels like a quick snap, nothing worse than a rubber band. The groin area (mankini) and the neck are more sensitive. If you want the energy lower, we can dial it back and add a session to the course. Nobody is grading you on how much you can take.
How many sessions?
Count on 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only catches follicles in the active phase — roughly 20% at any given time. After the full course, yearly touch-ups keep things clean. Hormonal areas like the beard and groin may need a couple of extra rounds.
Preparation
- Shave the area the night before. Do not wax — the follicle root must be intact.
- No tanning or self-tanner for two weeks before your session.
- Showered, clean skin, no lotion or deodorant on the treatment area.
- If you are doing back or shoulders, wear a loose T-shirt — tight fabric on freshly lasered skin is uncomfortable.
